All of us want to
hear the talks of some informed people about different topics for learning
something and discover new perspectives. When we wanted to hear a talk we can
find a talk on TED.com. TED is an international organization for talks, they
have very serious prestige. Our purpose is creating TED Talks in RC at first
but after our discussions we decided to create a club for organizing these TED
talks and thus each year TED talks can be. The club will organize all things
for talks every year and at last of the year a TEDx will occur. We are thinking
to organize TEDx, TEDx is a little bit different from other programs. TEDx is a
program for individual plans. In summary, we will try to create a club for organizing
the TEDx in RC because everyone needs some different ideas and most effective
way is talks for it.
Everyone has not a
role in our group, everyone should help to others and we should do it together;
C. is the leader of project because he thought this idea and he had searched
and he knows much than us. C. and B. will try mailing with TED if possible
and all of us prepared questions for interviews, we planned the schedule and we
are laboring with some problems still. If this project can be real, each of us
will have a duty in the club, we did not specify any job. For now, we are doing
every job in the group.
Robert College
always deserves more. In class our teachers always show some TED talks and they
say watch something like this will help to our development and we want to bring
these talks to RC.
All RC community
members can benefit from this project; students (9s and 10s because we don’t
want to accept the 11s and 12s) can join the club and they can work in an
organize the club and they can improve their organize skills also this club
will processing to CV and TED organize club will be a big club like DI, JA,
etc.. Other students and teachers can watch the talks and they can learn new
ideas and they will watch really beneficial show. Maybe parents can join to
TEDx as a visitor. We are thinking to call the alumnus as a talker for give the
speech at TED. Admin will gain prestige. Also, TED Talks occur seldom in Turkey
and if we can do it this will be beneficial for Turkey’s development.
We had a lot of
problems; in the first part we couldn’t make a decision between TEDx, TEDed,
TED we searched, we discussed and our decision was TEDx. We couldn’t adjust the
budget because we wasn’t know anything about the school budget and sponsors, we
are thinking find some sponsors if school doesn’t give money. Our planning step
was easier than other steps but we had some problems about max number of
students, advertisements and distribution of tasks. Our hardest challenge was
finding an advisor. We couldn’t find anyone for advisor but we are looking for
advisor still. We may experience the advisor problem in the future because
nearly all teachers have a club and they are generally busy consequently we
couldn’t find an advisor yet. After we established the club we will labor the
financial processes and club administration processes.
We discussed the
challenges as a group and we did interview with a teacher and dean of Student activities and
we solved some problems besides we solved some problems with discuss. Here the results;
we need the advertisers and sponsors and according to with a teacher we did
accept her opinions, advertising can be more effective when announced at the
announcements and flag ceremonies. Maybe, we can find a speaker for
advertising. After we established the club, we will distribution of tasks and
we will find an effective speaker for this role. Another problem is sponsoring.
Finding a sponsor is a hard job and we discussed this topic as a group
with our interviews. We separated the club as a financial and content. The financial
part of the club will adjust the sponsors, advertisements, too. Content part
will adjust the speakers, they will content with alumnus and other available
speakers. Student activities did a huge help to us about the speakers. He had seen the
before TED Talks in the school and he advised to us the other TED organizers,
Ege Yumuşak, Göksenin Akdeniz, Hilal Kocabıyık had done the old TEDs and we
will the interview with them. In our discussions we labored about the budget
mostly. According to Student activities, the school can give the some money for this
project but we don’t think that money will be enough for us so; sponsors are
very important factor for us. Also, the club day and a number of club
members are other problems. We discussed a lot, we would fight in the
discussion, nearly and our suggestions; the club will be on Thursday because of
Cem’s plans. We also decided the number of members and our decision is max 11
members.
Everyone needs to
hear some different ideas and discuss their ideas with others, TED has created
for this and this organization will come to RC. We want to do that so much as a
group and we worked on it like ants. We lived very heated discussions. We wrote
our decisions to progress diary immediately. We took notes while we are interviewing
with with a teacher and Student activities and we used them in our discussion group. At
first we were thinking about the problems. What it will be? TEDx, TEDed, etc.
Financial problems, advertising and sponsors… Basic problems of a club: number
of members, the day, etc. At the first part we were in a predicament but we
shared our ideas with the others and our interviews solved the problems, nearly
all of them.
I often used our
progress diary, especially while I am writing the challenges and finding from
our interviews. It helped to me a lot. I am grateful to that progress diary
because if it had not, I wouldn’t support my ideas with evidences.
My conversation techniques improved, indeed. When I
talked about my opinions in my group I felt so comfortable and I show these
comfortable movements in class, in my friend groups. After the project when I
present something front of my class I felt the same comfort because I had the same
thing with my TED group; I had shared my ideas without fearlessly. This work
destroyed my bashfulness. In the first part of the project, I was not thinking
this project will improve me but I was wrong.
